Distillery Experience

Being involved in Awamori distillation as a craftsman is a valuable experience

Ikehara Shuzo was founded in 1951 and continues to produce Ryukyu Awamori.We continue to uphold our handcrafted traditions as we have for many years.
During tours of the distillery, we explain how Awamori is made, but due to the difficulty of adjusting the distillation schedule, there haven’t been many opportunities for people to actually experience it.
We received many requests from customers who visited our store, including “Shiroyulists”, and created the plan after making repeated adjustments and improvements.

Applications are accepted at WAmazing Play.
*Applications must be made by 5:00 p.m., seven days prior.
*The schedule may change without notice depending on preparation status, bad weather, etc.

Experience Schedule

Awamori Experience Tour Schedule

  • 12:00 –
  • Gathering & Registration
    • We will start with an introduction to the history and production of Awamori. You will also learn about the differences between Awamori and Shochu, as well as local ingredients that pair well with Awamori.
  • Preparation (Steaming the Rice)
    • 300 kg of rice will be transferred to wooden trays in the koji room and evenly spread out.
  • Awamori Tasting & Fermentation Process (Black Koji Mold Inoculation)
    • While waiting for the steamed rice to cool down, enjoy a tasting session of Awamori.
    • Once the rice has cooled to the appropriate temperature, black koji mold will be mixed in and left to ferment.
  • Label Creation, Packing & Shipping
    • You can create your own original label by sending a photo or text to our staff (AirDrop sharing via iPhone is also available).
    • Your personalized Awamori bottle, with a one-of-a-kind label, will be ready to take home as a souvenir.
  • 15:00 – End of Tour & Dismissal
